Default Excessive Diesel Smell

Ford F250, 2005

The truck was new to me two years ago. At the time there was a very slight smell of diesel fuel evident in the cab while driving.

In the last few months the smell has gotten considerably worse. Now my wife complains about it.

There are no drips of any fluids visible under the truck where I park it. I have peered around in the engine compartment to see if I could see any indication of a fuel leak, but there is nothing obvious.

What do I do about excessive smell?

The most common that I have seen is the exhaust manifolds leaking.

They don't use gaskets from the factory but they are available now.

Sometimes the manifold bolts will fall out and cause leaks also.

Look through the wheel openings and see if there is any black residue around the exhaust ports. This indicates a leak.

I've seen them leak at 30K miles on several trucks.
