Default Lost power & died On highway

89 F250 w 88000 miles, stock, well maintained, full of fuel w polar power-30 deg temp, driving highway speed-------I heard the engine starting to labor but it was still maintaining speed for about a mile. Then she just labored & knocked more & quit. I tried to restart & it knocked badly like it was firing on a few cylinders, but wouldn't catch. Pulled fuel filter(replaced less than 1000 miles ago) & didn't detect any jelling or ice. Reassembled, truck just barely restarted for about 10 sec knocking bad like only a few cyls was getting fuel before stalling again. Got a new fuel filter & now it cranks like there isn't any fuel at all. Checked heater fuse(OK). Still on the side of highway. Ideas? Bob

there are 7.3 direct injection and 7.3 indirect injection the older trucks, pre 95 are the direct injection trucks there were some powerstrokes made in 94 but after 95 was the switch to the DI diesel or powerstroke turbo diesel.

Pre 94 1/2 are indirect injection 94 1/2 and newer are powerstrokes (direct injection)

You got it backwards Andrew.

Anyways back to topic. Check your fuel pressure. Have some one crank it over, there's a schrader valve on the filter housing. You can depress the valve and see if fuel comes out squirting out. If so you'll prolly need to crack the injector lines at each injector and crank it over till fuel starts coming out, then tighten them up. Should start.

And the only way to get a 94.5 with a PSD/DI was in a 5spd auto wasn't an option till 95... For what its worth....

Rentalman... Also you may have a cracked injector tip, or stuck open injector... Try those things aswell... Cale
