Default Valve cover gaskets

Alright i got my truck up and running with my new inejctors....

I believe its running on only 7 cylinders though, and the plug on the passenger side, towards the back of the valve cover is getting SUPER hot and it even melted part of it. What causes this?
No problems when i parked it here so it all occured during the swap.

I did forget to un hook the batteries during the swap, is that a problem?

I can just replace the plug and gasket but i dont want to if its just going to continue melting

Ohm the solenoid. 3 ohms is what it should read. If it reads okay, look at the connections.

Sounds like a loose connection.

Normally a dead short just kills the Bank. Loose connections make heat.

the solenoid where? on the injector?

I am talking about the plug that plugs INTO the valve cover gasket...its has like 5 prongs and one of those flat melted away and its getting to hot for my comfort.

Truck will run it just doesnt sound right, pretty sure its down a cylinder

Might want to pull off the valve covers and put some diaelectric grease on everything...

don't worry about doing it witout unhooking the batteries...done it that way many times..

Oh my bad I mis-read. Was it the glow plug terminal, that got hot and melted the plastic, or the injector wire.
The glow plug connections are the most outer pins.

I had a glow plug wire short at the valve cover gasket one time that shorted into the injector wiring. Nasty out come.

Sounds like you have something similar going on right now.

It's very common. The connection in the connetors for the glow plugs (outer two) gets some resistance which causes heat and metls the connectors. Best case it melts the inner one and you just replace the under valve cover harness and the valve cover gasket. Worst case it melts the outer one and you have to buy the repair kit for the connector on the engine wire harness and replace the gasket.

As it melts the glow plug connector in the gasket it will melt into the next wire over which in turn messes up the injector wire which causes that injector not to run.

Geoff that was a great explanation and that is EXACTLY what happened. Thank you bud.

Does anyone have one i can pick up cheaper than the ford ones? I need the connection and the harness. I am desperate. I have a new turbo and sticks to try out and my truck only halfway runs haha

Get them from IH. They are about half the price of the Ford ones. Is it the internal or external connectors that fried?

And there you go with that "sticks" thing again!

I'm just giving you a hard time! LOL!

The inner ones just get the harnesses. The outer ones you'll have to get the kits. Make sure to solder and shrink wrap any connections and use the right crimpers to get the connectors on the ends of the wires. If you were closer I'd come give you a hand but you're a little ways away.
