Default Throttle Position Sensor (TPS)

Has anyone ever had one of these go out? I was out for a test drive on Saturday and the engine cut out and died. Then I restarted it and it would only idle and the go pedal wouldn't work. So I was creeping down the road in idle with my flashers on for about a 1/4 mile and then all of a sudden the pedal started to work again. Any ideas??? Kinda weird...

thanks!

Where exactly are they? They must be somewhere on the pedal.

Its actually the entire pedal assembly. You just have to remove the 3 screws that hold it down. Its plugged into an connector.

Wrecking yard...

Sometimes you can make them work for a bit with some electrical cleaner spray...

Would the 00's and 01's have the same pedal assembly? If so, I might be able to snag the one out of the wrecked 00 I got before the guys that bought the remains come to get it!

I am thinking they are, and were changed in 02.

That sounds right.. You could borrow Gordon's to make sure yours is really bad and not something else too.

It is..... but Gordon is a 100 miles from me... ... I am going to just hit up the junkyard and grab a couple of them... . It just did it that one time. I am also going to try to clean up the connectors and get some dielectric grease to put in there.... that might help too...

The TPS shouldn't make the truck shut off. When the TPS fail the truck just thinks it's at idle. The TPS can't cause "negative" throttle command.

All the TPS from 94 to at least 03 are the same. If you use a late model TPS in an OBS truck there is an adapter wiring harness needed as the OBS trucks had an external IVS and the later TPS had it internal.

I was coming to a stop and just as soon as I pulled out from the stop sign the truck went to idle and died. Then I restarted it and it would idle just fine...

I think the fact that I am running completely stock tuning with Hybrids and Big oil is why it died. I should be getting my chip back any day now. I was just cruising around on back roads testing out the new wheel bearings and to see if anything is leaking after the HPOP install...
